Steven Brock working at Myatt's Field

Steven has been working as a volunteer at the Myatt's Field gardening project once a week since April this year.  He is holding an award, because the greenhouse he works at on a Thursday won an Edible London award for their success in growing vegetables. It was a great achievement for Steven and all the other volunteers.

MEETING ON 20TH JUNE 2013

We talked about changes that were happening at Toucan. There is a new Employment Worker starting in June called Declan.  We will also be employing a learning disability employment worker.  Toucan is getting some more computers so that more people will be able to come in to the office to use them.  The new cafĂ©, No 178, is going to open very soon in June. Sian told the meeting about the Fit 4 Life aerobics class run by Emma.  Kenny is interested in this.  There is also an allotment project and people are welcome to come along and volunteer with growing vegetables. There was some talk about arranging a summer picnic to a park and Roger is going to make a poster. Freda requested that Toucan buy some folding chairs for meetings so that everyone can sit comfortably.

MEETING 5TH FEB 2013

We welcomed Toyin to the meeting as this is the first time she has been.
We talked about the changes to the benefits system, housing benefits and council tax benefits.  Everyone is worried about how this will affect them and would like someone to come to Toucan to talk to people and explain what is going to happen.
Freda said that she has sent away for information on Healthy Eating/Living.  We decided it would be a good idea to have a walking group which Themoulla would lead.  To be organised when weather gets a bit warmer.  We will do posters to let everyone else in Toucan know about it.
David D told everyone about the Valentine’s disco organised by Westminster Society and we gave information to people.
Toyin suggested that we keep a record of people’s birthdays and have a celebration at the meeting.  Everyone thought that was a good idea.
Feedback on Christmas Party:  everyone enjoyed it and Freda thought that the venue was much better because it was smaller and that the party went off well.

Meeting on 6th November 2012

We had a good discussion about the cuts.  Everyone was worried about the changes and cuts to services and benefits and what this will mean to them.

Anthony P brought in some information about the changes that will be happening in Southwark when people have a personal budget.  There is a Provider Fair on November 9th  which some people will be going to.

We talked  about Toucan'S Christmas party.  Invites will be sent or given to everyone.  Lara  suggested that we  should  have a raffle.  The  party will be downstairs at Pullen Hall this year.

Next meeting will be after Christmas.

David Dryden - Volunteering at the Southbank Centre Festival of the World

I was a volunteer at the Festival of the World from June to September.  My job was to welcome visitors to the Festival, hand out leaflets,  give out badges, stickers and games  to the children.  I also helped Paul water the gardens on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall.  I enjoyed the job and met a lot of new people and  Maria,  Simon and Andrew  Reed from the Southbank Centre.   Lara and Themoulla joined the team and volunteered for the Unlimited Festival, during the Paraolympic
games.  At the end of the Festival we had a big party  which everyone enjoyed and we were able to keep our TShirts and  bags.  I would like to do it again next year.
